Awareness for a TB-Free Future
Shree Narayan Medical Institute and Hospital observed World TB Day 2026 with an educational and awareness programme aimed at improving understanding of tuberculosis, its symptoms, modes of transmission, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Students, faculty members, doctors, and healthcare professionals participated in the initiative to reinforce the importance of early detection and uninterrupted treatment in controlling tuberculosis.
Understanding Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis is an infectious disease that primarily affects the lungs, although it can involve other parts of the body.
The awareness programme highlighted common symptoms such as:
- Persistent cough
- Fever
- Night sweats
- Unexplained weight loss
- Fatigue and weakness
- Loss of appetite
Participants were encouraged to seek medical evaluation when symptoms persist and to avoid delaying diagnosis or treatment.
Early Diagnosis and Complete Treatment
The programme emphasised that tuberculosis is preventable and treatable when diagnosed early and managed appropriately.
Students were sensitised to the importance of accurate diagnosis, adherence to prescribed treatment, follow-up care, and preventing the development of drug-resistant TB.
Combating Stigma Through Education
A major focus of the observance was reducing the stigma and misinformation associated with tuberculosis.
Patients affected by TB need timely medical care, emotional support, and understanding from their families and communities.
As future healthcare professionals, medical students were encouraged to communicate clearly, treat patients with dignity, and promote evidence-based information about the disease.
The Role of Future Doctors
World TB Day provides an opportunity for medical students to understand their future role in disease prevention and public health.
Through awareness, screening, diagnosis, treatment, counselling, and community education, healthcare professionals can contribute significantly to reducing the burden of tuberculosis.
Working Together to End TB
The programme concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening awareness and supporting efforts toward tuberculosis prevention and elimination.
Early diagnosis, complete treatment, awareness, and compassion are essential steps toward a TB-free future.
